The Congressional Air Cargo Caucus hosted a webinar in partnership with the Cargo Airline Association, entitled, “Cargo Air Carrier Impacts and Response to COVID-19”. The event featured remarks by caucus co-chairs Representative Paul Mitchell (R-MI) and Representative Cheri Bustos (D-IL) as well as caucus members Representative Garret Graves (R-LA) and Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS).
The caucus members recognized the importance of air cargo in their districts and the positive impacts air cargo has on the economy. Caucus co-chairs Mitchell and Bustos highlighted how critical air cargo carriers have been in transporting PPE and medical supplies throughout the height of the coronavirus pandemic. Representative Graves specifically thanked the air cargo industry for their, “Remarkable and agile response to the coronavirus,” noting the contributions the industry made to local economies, families and small businesses by quickly reacting to surge capacity needs.
The second half of the webinar featured an industry panel with representatives from ABX Air, Atlas Air Worldwide, DHL, FedEx and UPS. Read each speaker’s biography below. The panel was moderated by Senior Vice President of the Cargo Airline Association, Yvette Rose. The purpose of the panel was for industry leaders to share some of their COVID-19 response efforts, impacts and lessons learned. The panel members also discussed looking ahead towards economic recovery and the storage, distribution and delivery of a vaccine where air cargo will play a key role.
