Coalition Groups Take Aim at 5G
This month, coalition members including CAA, Airlines for America, GAMA, Boeing and others spearheaded an effort to elevate the issue of 5G implementation and the impact on the aviation industry within the highest levels of the Administration. In a letter addressed to the National Economic Council, Commerce Department, DOT, FAA and NTIA, the groups suggested that portions of the aviation industry whose planes need new or retrofitted altimeters to be able to operate in 5G zones will not be ready by the end of the year, as had initially been expected. They also asked for a long-term mitigation plan that’s “codified in regulation,” rather than the piecemeal solutions currently being employed, saying “all this investment will be wasted if a long-term mitigation plan is not put in place and codified in regulation, as additional wireless providers that have not been part of these interim voluntary efforts begin to provide services.”
